Day 1- We have continued to finish up everything around the house that we could possibly think of. Our caretakers Mike and Jenni are a couple of pretty amazing people, and they are about to welcome their first child into the world in the next few weeks. We feel really blessed we all ran into each other and things worked out so well. The home that raised our children will be a really happy home for theirs. ππ
We spent the last of our days busy and embracing all the things we would miss.
Yesterday morning Robert at Sunny Services put on our new tires. Thank You So Much Robert! I can’t even tell you how awesome and kind Robert has been helping us with this project. He is really a huge part of our journey.
The new tires are awesome!
Robert also informed me that The Ohana had been built quite well to access the spare tire underneath, but then someone had added the rear bumper and not left a way to access it through it. So I would have to devise a way to access the crank otherwise. We also discovered the spare tire and rim are not the right size for our current rig setup. So I added my first chore on the road- get it set up right.
Afterwards we said our final farewells to Mike and Jenni- entrusting them with our home that we have spent so much love and time on. As the Ohana warmed up for our take-off I snapped some pics of the property.
We stopped at the scale after letting go of one of the left over tires at the landfill. Our total weight on departure was 8.220 pounds!
On our way out of town Laura and I both had our requests for a last visit. Mine was the top of Baycrest Hill so I could (slightly) reenact the teenage drawing of my dream of leaving Homer twenty-one years later!
Laura wanted to visit Anchor Point Beach so we could start off at the Westerly Most Highway Point in America. Hopefully we can touch the Easterly most point on our travels one day.
Laura opted in for a home made energy drink mix instead of her usual Red Bull Slushy in Ninilchik! π
The rest of the trip to our first stopping point went smoothly. We chose the Six Mile Creek by Hope to stop at for our first night.
Laura made an amazing dinner, and once I got done washing the dishes in the river we went to sanitize them only to find the control board on our on demand hot water heater had died. π€¦ Looks like I already get to add another chore to the road list!
Regardless- we knew that things would come up along the way; we had just not expected so many discoveries on day one of our trip after so much pre-testing. But this is our new life on the road! We will figure it out for sure.
