Alright! As we were getting close to the snow melting away there was few things we were wanting to knock out in the Ithaca, and it was the perfect time to do that. The first project we tackled was creating the cushions for the bed and the couch. Laura and I had done this before- so it was time for us to teach RJ the way of the cushion. We re-purposed the original cushions from the RV, and once again used memory foam to top the project. The plan was to spray lock the foam together, vinyl glue the microfiber to the cushion bottoms, and stitch the corners tight… so here is a whole lotta photos of the process… π
So the removable center cushion area in the Ithaca was a bit different than Serenity- it was 2 separate removable cushion boards. We had a plan though…
We decided to add an additional board to span the two cushion boards.
This would add extra support, link the boards together to create a single cushion, and look nice from underneath in the cab.
RJ and I had started putting things together for the cushion that would go under the couch to add extra padding. Josie was at her usual pace doing her best to avoid work, and trying to find a way to snuggle into the blanket we were going to wrap the couch in…
In case you were wondering at the end Josie was not able to keep the cushion. π₯ΊπΆ But with thus, we were able to continue forth on our mission! We cut our piece of vinyl we would use for the cushion bottom.
Then it was on to spray lock and vinyl glue.
Laura continue forth building the other end cushion.
Alright, Alright! Josie did end up with a happy end to her story too… she scored the left over microfiber pieces!
With the cushions complete it was time to test them out. They fit in nicely!
And they were comfortable too! They passed multiple inspections; First The Josie Inspection.…
… And then the one that mattered most; The RJ Inspection!
With that- the new bed was complete!
The next project we chose to tackle was the bar we had talked about a long time ago, here is the concept I drew awhile back…
We had found a pretty nice door that we re-purposed for this project. Yes; it is a hollow core, but we chose it for a nice look and it is light-weight. So it was time to install it! RJ had found some shelf brackets, and she had made some ledgers for the ends of the bar.
After some trim to cap it down from the top, it was looking pretty good! More importantly, it also was pretty stout!
We had found some nice stools up at the landfill we were able to keep that would be tucked up under the bar. The Ithaca had a huge beautiful window that people would be able to look out of while that sat and enjoyed themselves.
We had also found a cargo net/ tension bar system that would be to keep the stools underneath the bar (Plus whatever else she wanted to store under there) while she was traveling.
And with that- The Bar Was A Reality! The Ithaca was looking great- and the plan was for it to come back to our home as soon as she could drive without ice and snow again!
