So our spring quests continued! Laura had noticed some spots in the wall paneling were scuffed and worn, and she went to work applying stain to the paneling- which cleaned it up wonderfully! Check out some of these before and after pics:
We had purchased a table that was nearly falling apart at a yard sale, but it still had value to us. You see, it had a thin butcher block top on it. I took the table apart and cut and shaped a cutting board stove cover.
Then Sanded, stained, and oiled it. I installed lips along the outside edges of the bottom so that it wouldn’t slide around. (Later I would install magnets as well to magnetize it to the stove top, not because of sliding but because of it bouncing and rattling when we would travel on dirt roads) We pulled all of the cabinet doors, closet door, and the bathroom door and sprayed them silver. We also pulled all of the curtain rods, the heater cover, and the skylight trims and sprayed them with a steel hammered finish. We even pulled the paper towel holder in the kitchen to give it the hammered finish too!
We had ordered new hardware for the cabinet handles- so after the doors were re-hung we installed that too. There were a few special sea turtle pulls that we installed in there as well. The sea turtle pulls were originally a wedding gift, which we installed in our master bedroom when we owned “the big house”.
(As our kids like to call it) We had bought (At Jo-Ann up in Soldotna 2 hours away) a re-applicable sticky back vinyl. We had decided as charming as the 1980’s recipe wallpaper was… it didn’t quite match the theme we were going for. So we bought a shiny silver vinyl worked it along as we cut it to shape and applied it, and before you knew it the kitchen had a completely different feel. We took some 1/4″ moulding and cut it to cap the transition between the grey vinyl and the wood tone. Then I took some aluminum corner trim, cut it to size, drilled holes, and mounted it in the corners.
The last time we were out of town, we purchased a set of dark brown easy adjust blinds, so I installed those over the stove and sink- they turned out slick!
Remember this ol’ photo from the beginning? Well- I’m sharing it because it’s the only picture I have of the inside of the truck doors, and that sweet plaid! We pulled the inside door panels and wrapped them in new fabric to match our theme- it came out looking really good!
