Sorry folks- had to edit the last post a little… FYI π¬π For those of you that already read it, some things ahead may seem a little familiar. π€£
So it was that time of year again for Laura to go on a trip out of town. This time I was going to be flying solo for 2 weeks- and as soon as she got back we were headed to our yearly joy of Salmonfest again! So to put it simply- I had a lot I wanted to accomplish before our yearly festival. A lot happened simultaneously during this time- so I am going to do the best to keep the projects separate as to not make all this too confusing. π
Prior to this trip I had been hunting for the next storage pod (or pods)- but every good one I found was up in the Anchorage area. Every person I had messaged wasn’t willing to take a down to hold one for me until I drove Laura up to fly out of Anchorage. So we ended up hoping to find one on our trip up there. We stopped at a junk yard in Soldotna, but they did not have one… we scoured Facebook Marketplace for one as we traveled, yet coincidentally enough not one was on the market during this trip. π
On our way up we decided to spend the first night of our weekend in Hope. Turns out Hope is a happenin’ little place in the summertime! It was crazy busy and everyone was out to party. By the end of the night though we tucked in at a nice little pull-over overlooking the water. We drifted off that night to the sounds of wind and surf… ππ΄
The next night was the big event for us- one of my favorite bands was playing in Anchorage at the Moose’s Tooth- Rebelution! The band was amazing! Their energy and messages were so true- and seeing Eric Rachmany’s reaction when everyone was singing his songs all the way up here in Alaska with such humble and gleaming surprise was so inspiring! Great show! The only thing that could’ve made the night better would have been if some of the people in the crowd weren’t there. I was amazed that people paid for and showed up to a band most of them didn’t even know who they were- and spent more time complaining they couldn’t hear the person on the other end of their phone over the music… weird! People are strange sometimes… π€· As the crowd dispersed after the show ended we headed back to our home base. We got a pretty big kick about how many people were tripping out over Serenity as they walked by. My favorite comment was “Wow! Check that thing out! It looks like it’s a military rig! It’s rigged up with security and GPS!” It’s not- they just saw the backup camera system. π It was a great smile and chuckle though!
So we spent another day in Anchorage and I dropped Laura off for her flight pretty late, then drove off into the night headed home.
As I drove through the night I started to grow weary… but luckily that is the beauty of being in a Motorhome, you don’t have to make it all the way to take a rest. I set my mid-trip goal to stop in Kenai. I would crash in the Walmart parkinglot, then spend the next morning checking Marketplace and hitting the second hand stores in hope of finding a storage pod.
The next morning I arose and started my hunt. It didn’t take me long- I surprisingly enough found my answer at my first stop- The Bargain Basement. They had a large storage pod out front for $75! That was half the price of all the one’s I had tried to coordinate through Marketplace! So I paid for our new prize and sent Laura this picture…
…Then I was headed home to get some work done!π
When I arrived home I patched the original mounting holes inside the bottom of the 2 original pods, then drilled new holes in all 3 pods to mount 3/4″ U-Bolts around the cross braces and up into the pods. The new pod was so big that it was going to take up all of the space available on the 2 front cross braces. It was also going to have to mount sideways unfortunately, so it could fit between the air conditioner, the bathroom skylight, and the front master bed skylight. I also had to make sure that these braces would not only hold the pods, but be positioned so that 3 of them would support the awning I had ordered.
Next I Gaco treated the new pod.
After it had gotten its proper coats and dried, I was able to mount them on top. I went and purchased a new combo lock for the new pod and we were good to go- Serenity finally had her third storage pod! If we were going to travel the country with this girl- we were going to need as much storage as possible. π
