Now while all this progress with the Odyssey was going on- we were still doing some updates on Serenity as well.
Remember how I had to put a hasp on Serenity’s camper entry door? Well… I once again started looking into getting a viable (and affordable) replacement, and this time I found one. I ended up ordering one to try on Serenity, knowing the Odyssey would eventually need one too- so it was worth a test. Here’s the one I ordered.
When it arrived I was disappointed to find it was not a perfect fit. All the moving hardware and the thickness was going to work but the height and width was quite a bit smaller. So Laura and I spent a ton of time reinforcing the open space in the door, templating the panels and making blocking to build up around and support the handle. Not only did it need to hold it- it needed to be strongly built into the door to hold up as a lock. This lock came with a feature my old one did not, a deadbolt, but there was still a hole for it in the jamb so we were good to go. I did have to route out the jamb a little to make the fit- but after a lot of trial and error we had a new working lock.
During this time we pulled the door completely out and bed lined the inside of it- it turned out pretty neat!
We installed new screen in the screen door- and due to the fact her screen door slider was broken- I used some of the left over metal and built her a new door slider complete with pulls on both sides . We also installed magnet catches for the door and the screen door- no swinging in the wind anymore!
Last but not least a touch of Firefly inside…
And Out!
Speaking of some fun extras- we added some cool stuff throughout her too!
